The most recent cyber-crime is Webcam Hacking.
A Software Engineer is having a distressing time tackling a hacker who claims to have created intimate videos featuring the techie by hacking his webcam.
The hacker is demanding $2,200 via bitcoins, threatening that the videos will be uploaded otherwise. But whether or not the hacker actually possesses the videos has not been proven yet.
From the email, the hacker claimed to have put malware in certain pornography sites the techie visited, and his “web browser started working as RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) using a key logger” supplying the miscreant accessibility to the techie’s notebook and webcam.
The nervous man shared the email copy with the Police. He then explained;
“The hacker apparently made a sex tape containing two components: the very first part was all about exactly what I did and the other was about exactly what I had been watching.
Then he began demanding the ransom, failing which he “threatened to ruin me by sending the footage to all those in my contact list and family members,” which he obtained through the software application.
My personal account information was breached from nine sources, including three confirmed sources.”
The police are yet to make any headway in the case, but said it can also be a case of mind games being played by the fraudsters.
Cyber specialists, while expressing concern, said there is nothing to fear because it could be managed by assessing webcam safety preferences and changing passwords in periods.
