WhatsApp has got an update on both iOS and Android which lets users share their WhatsApp status directly to their Facebook stories. If you use both WhatsApp and Facebook, you will see the new option when you add a new status on your WhatsApp account.
Share to Facebook Story is activated as an option in the Status tab under ‘My Status’ option. Clicking on this button opens up the share sheet menu on Android and iPhone. You can also share your WhatsApp story to other apps from the menu apart from Facebook Story.
As WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, they are trying to sync as many features as possible. Facebook has seen lower interests from users over time and other social media apps are building audience very competitively.
One reason for this is a lower reach of Facebook posts and more focus on advertised posts. Platforms like Twitter has gained a lot of popularity over time while Facebook is now dealing with lower daily active users. Facebook is now trying to win back the interest of its users by integrating such features in their other apps.
To share your status update to Facebook Stories:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap Status.
- Create a status update on: Android and iPhone
- You have two sharing options based on if you want to share a new or old status update:
- Share new status update: Under My status, tap Share to Facebook Story. If prompted, tap Allow or Open to open the Facebook app. In the Facebook app, select the audience you want to share with, then tap Share Now. Please note the Share to Facebook Story option disappears once you go to another tab.
- Share old status update: Tap My Status on iPhone or More by My status on Android. Next, tap More ( or ) next to the status update you want to share, then tap Share to Facebook. If prompted, tap Allow or Open to open the Facebook app. In the Facebook app, select the audience you want to share with, then tap Share Now.
- After you share your status update, WhatsApp will reopen.
If you have multiple status updates, you can choose which updates you want to share to Facebook Stories. This feature is only available if you have one of the following apps installed on your device: Facebook on Android, Facebook Lite on Android or Facebook on iOS.
To share your status update to other apps:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap Status.
- Create a status update on: Android and iPhone
- You have two sharing options based on if you want to share a new or old status update:
- Share new status update: Under My status, tap Share ( or ). Please note the Share option disappears once you go to another tab.
- Share old status update: Tap My Status on iPhone or More by My status on Android. Next, tap More ( or ) next to the status update you want to share, then tap Share.
- In the share tray that appears, tap the app you want to share your status update to.
